During pipe lay – the process of lowering pipe into the ground, or into the water off a lay-barge, a last holiday detection is performed to ensure that no remaining defects are present in the coating. Repair of coatings such as FBE or 3LPE can be slow and the cure time can mean that the whole lowering in crew and equipment is on standby while such repairs are carried out.
We can recommend and supply fast curing 2-component repair materials – liquid epoxy or polyurethane, which can be mixed and applied in a matter of 2-3 minutes and cure hard enough to resist roller cradle loads within 5-10 minutes or so. This saves a huge amount of time and cost for the contractor.
On 3LPE coated pipe, repairs can be carried out using meltsticks or PE repair patches. However, some contractors are not adept at this kind of repair – we can assist and supply PE melt sticks and patch materials and show exactly how to apply them and ensure repetitive results.
